A call to action from the Drug Policy Alliance:
Do you have at least 10 years’ experience turning a blind eye to scandal and corruption?
Are you adept at undermining the Bill of Rights, and committed to incarcerating hundreds of thousands of people for drug law violations every year?
Then you might just be the perfect person to run the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
I’m not kidding. If drug war bureaucrats get their way that is EXACTLY the type of person they are looking for — someone committed to the status quo, someone who opposes science and reason at every turn.
At the Drug Policy Alliance we’ve been fighting the drug war propaganda coming out of the DEA for years, and now with the resignation (*cough* firing) of DEA head Michele Leonhart, we finally have a chance to enact meaningful reform. But only if we appoint a new leader committed to reforming drug policy.
After years of fighting the DEA’s obstruction of science and blatant disregard for human rights, we finally got rid of Leonhart last month. But we must keep the fight going until drug use is treated as a health issue, not a criminal justice issue.
