Here’s a look at some of the top benefits of cannabis oil.

If good health came in a bottle, it’d fly off the shelves. People would elbow, cut, and push each other out of the way to get their hands on longevity. Because there’s no doubt about it: health is a bestseller. But, while it has yet to be manufactured, packaged, and sent to the local Target, the idea of a bottle of wellness isn’t all that preposterous. At least not when it comes to cannabis oil.

Cannabis oil is derived from marijuana; it’s the concentrated, distilled form of the plant after the plant material has been stripped away with solvent. Like your typical joint, oil contains varying amounts of cannabinoids.

CBD oil has negligible amounts of THC (if any), which is why you can purchase the product over the internet regardless of your state’s stance on recreational weed; the amount of THC is too low to affect you. It won’t get you high, not even if you gulp down the entire bottle.

THC oil does the opposite. A cannabis serum rich in THC, it will get you high, quite high.

Many users find it more potent than traditional pot. It remains illegal in states holding strong to their anti-recreational stance, though some allow it for medicinal use.

Oil from all sorts of things is good for you – olive, pine, peppermint, walnut, coconut. You shouldn’t fill a shot glass with Valvoline and toast to your health, but you get the point. Cannabis is no different: whether you’re seeking supplemental benefits or you’re looking for an extra kick, it comes with a myriad of perks. A taste of these include:

It hearts your heart:

Heart disease is still the number one killer of Americans: approximately one in three people die from cardiovascular events. While some people have a genetic predisposition, a great deal of this disease involves lifestyle choices: refusing to exercise, smoking tobacco, eating diets high in red meat, and, quite possibly, not ingesting cannabis.

A 2013 study conducted at the Felsenstein Medical Research Center in Israel found that small amounts of cannabis, when given to mice, produced improvement in the efficiency of the heart ventricles. It reduced the amount of Troponin T in their systems as well, a protein the heart leaks when it’s damaged. It even decreased the size of infarctions, areas where blood doesn’t reach the heart muscle and, as a result, the tissue dies.

A 2014 study conducted at the University of Nottingham School of Medicine found additional benefits: cannabis causes blood vessels to relax and widen. This results in lower blood pressure and improved circulation, two things that help prevent heart attacks (in addition to much more minor maladies like cold feet).

It boosts appetite:

Sure, not all of us benefit from this – our appetites are plenty boosted, thank you very much. But some people do need to pack on the calories. Anyone fighting an illness, from Crohn’s disease to depression, might find themselves with a hunger that’s anything but stimulated. You may have other reasons too – perhaps you’re a young guy hoping to bulk up in order to get the girl just like in every single movie. Whatever the desire, cannabis oil, especially if it has THC, brings about the munchies. But it’s not limited to stomach growls and cravings for, well, everything; it helps your digestive system operate on a more regulated level. It aids things like constipation because of its ability to relax your bowels.

Reduces stress:

Stress and anxiety, on their own, are no fun, but they also contribute to several physical health issues, including the aforementioned heart disease. Cannabis oil is beneficial in a few ways – it helps the body release pleasure hormones while calming the mind. This reduces overall angst and provides a sense of wellbeing.

Like most things, it also causes a bit of a butterfly effect: when you’re less stressed, you’re more likely to do things beneficial to your health, like going for a jog and not drinking your body weight in Riesling.

It offers pain relief:

Cannabis oil is an anti-inflammatory. This enables it to provide relief for all kinds of pain, from arthritis to menstrual cramps, from work-related injuries to the muscle you pulled on purpose to get out of shoveling the driveway. Some people who find that smoking THC greens isn’t enough to treat their discomfort look towards THC oil, as it may pack a more powerful punch.

It helps you sleep:

The inability to sleep impacts your life on many levels. It messes up your immune system, making you more prone to illness. Keps you tired during the day, making you more prone to stress and accidents. It leaves you anxious, which effects everything from your job to how you relate to people.

The Speculation

Of course, it’s difficult to write an article on the benefits of cannabis oil without mentioning its cancer fighting potential. At the very least, cannabis fights inflammation and things that fight inflammation (from curry to Aspirin) are known to prevent cancer, likely because chronic inflammation causes DNA damage (the foundation of malignancy).

In particular regards to oil, there’s been a lot of discussion. Opponents argue that marijuana is not a proven cure for cancer and they’re right. It’s not a frank cure. Not yet.

History, however, is made of not yets. In the early 1960s, we were not yet able to put a man on the moon. In the 1970s, we were not yet able to implant an artificial heart into someone awaiting cardiac transplant. The 1980s; we were not yet able to go online and have information – everything we’ve ever wanted to know – at our fingertips. In the 1990s, we were not yet able to connect with people from all over the globe, from Argentina to Zimbabwe, in a matter of seconds.

History is made of not yets. Then one day it changes. And they become just nows.
